GULF SHORES, Ala. -
Irene Moore wrapped up a record-setting senior season on Friday with a 10th-place finish in the heptathlon at the NAIA Track & Field Championships being held at Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
Moore established a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 32.26 meters (105-10), which netted her 519 points, and her total score of 4,430 points not only was a personal best but also eclipsed her own Evergreen mark of 4,397 points set at the Cascade Collegiate Conference heptathlon.
The day didn't start particularly well for Moore, who leaped 4.92 meters (16-1 1/2) to score 538 points in the long jump. She followed that up with two of her strongest individual performances of the competition. Her javelin throw eclipsed the former school record of 30.05 meters (98-7) set by Hapa Patcho in 2014.
Moore then closed out the heptathlon by finishing first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.74, good for 841 points.
This spring alone Moore established school records in eight events - 100 meters (13.09), 200 meters (26.24), 400 meters (58.35), 100 hurdles (15.49), 400 hurdles (1:02.38), long jump (5.34 meters / 17-6 1/4), javelin (32.26 meters / 105-10) and heptathlon (4,430 points).
