Box Score KIRKLAND – After rallying with a strong third set victory Friday night, The Evergreen State College couldn't maintain its momentum in dropping a 25-19, 26-24, 14-25, 25-17 Cascade Collegiate Conference volleyball contest to the host Northwest University Eagles at NU Pavilion.
Natalie Taylor recorded 17 kills,
Jorden Porter added 11 more and
Megan Breckenridge led all players with 17 digs for the Geoducks (4-20 overall, 3-14 CCC), who were playing their fifth straight road game.
Lara Linden finished with 12 kills and Morgan Pilon served five aces, including three in a row in the fourth set, to lead the Eagles to the win.
Northwest (15-7, 12-5) got out to a strong start, hitting .286 in the first set, which included seven ties and two lead changes. The second set featured one lead change and 10 ties. The final of those ties came when the Geoducks rallied late to even things up at 24-24 before the Eagles scored the final two points to take a 2-0 lead in sets.
That led to an impressive third set showing by the Geoducks, who hit .333 as a team, led by Taylor with six kills, Porter with five and
Renita Gray with three. They also recorded three team blocks, including two block assists each by
Chloee Hunt and Gray.
There were three early ties and one lead change in the third set, which saw the Geoducks rattle off eight straight points to stretch a 15-8 lead to 23-8.
Jorden Porter served seven of those points that ended with five kills and two blocks by the Geoducks.
Evergreen got on top early in the fourth set and led 10-7 when the Eagles rolled off four straight points. After ties at 10 and 11, the hosts scored 10 of the next 11 points to grab a 21-12 edge, and for all intents and purposes the set and match were over.
The Geoducks close out their 2016 home schedule on Sunday when they face the Walla Walla University Wolves starting at 2 p.m. in Costantino Recreation Center. Seniors
Kylie Kytan and Porter will be honored prior to the start of the match.
